# Article formats

A **format** is the kind of article — a review, a how-to, a comparison, and so on. It's a genre *guideline*, not a rigid template: within a format, the AI decides the exact outline and which blocks to use. You set a format per article in the node drawer, or leave the plan's **Allowed formats** empty so TMN picks the best one for each topic.

Formats fall into two groups, which differ in *when* products are resolved.

## Product-first formats

The article is built around products, so products are found **before** the outline is written.

| Format | Typical intent | What it is |
| ---------------- | -------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| **Review**       | Money          | In-depth review of a single product.          |
| **Comparison**   | Money          | Side-by-side comparison of 2–3 products.      |
| **Roundup**      | Money          | A curated "best of" list for a category.      |
| **Alternatives** | Money / Mixed | Alternatives to a named product or service. |
| **Gift Guide** | Money | Curated gift picks for an occasion or person. |

## Content-first formats

The content comes first; where product slots fit, they're filled afterward with products relevant to that section.

| Format | Typical intent | What it is |
| -------------------- | -------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| **Buying Guide** | Mixed | What to look for, plus curated picks. |
| **How-To**           | Info           | Step-by-step instructions.                |
| **Troubleshooting**  | Info           | Diagnose and fix a problem.               |
| **Maintenance** | Info | Care and upkeep guide. |
| **Beginner Guide** | Info | Foundational introduction for newcomers. |
| **Explainer**        | Info           | "What is X" — a concept explanation.      |
| **Problem–Solution** | Info / Mixed   | Identify a problem and an actionable fix. |
| **FAQ**              | Info           | Question-and-answer format.               |
| **Case Study**       | Info / Mixed   | A real-world scenario and its outcome.    |
| **Myths vs Facts**   | Info           | Myth-debunking format.                    |
| **Brand Overview**   | Mixed          | A brand's history, range, and reputation. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://tmniche-docs.keywordrush.com/reference/formats.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
